Bell boating
Bell boats are in essence two canoes permanently fixed together with a deck between the two hulls. Comparable to dragon boats its a team effort to get them underway. Every one gets their own paddle to provide the forward and back momentum while a helm steers. Fantastic for someone who is uncertain about taking to the water, these very stable craft can take a lot of jumping up and down won't even think of capsizing. Users may be required to help unload and put the two halves of the boat(s) together at the start of the trip. The boat(s) will also need to be taken apart and loaded onto the trailer at the end.
A minimum of 6 participants is needed to power each boat up to a maximum of 8. Depending on the venue the number of participants that can be on hand to have a go is only limited by the desires of you the hirer within the 2 hour on the water time. This can be discussed with the person in charge of the bell boat bookings. All our instructors are qualified to ___________. Please make a booking ____X____ weeks prior to the activity so we can find a volunteer instructor(s). Owing to the size of our buoyancy aids we can only offer this activity to ages 6 and over. All activity must take place in daylight hours as the craft has no lights fitted
Hire at Leybourne Lakes
There is public bench seating but is advisable to bring own seating. Limited to operating hours set by the lake owners. There is a small café for hot drinks and snacks. Bring an event shelter or gazebo is a handy addition. Please allow at least 30-45 mins to travel to the lake, park up (pay & display carpark) and get changed into wet activity clothing. Ideal for a food shop top up with large Tesco near by.
Hire on River Medway
Only those involved in operating the craft will be able to take part in the expedition. Other members may wish to walk along the river path but do so as a self led activity.
*** In all instances of hire you will need to provide your own transport, the option to hire one of the local groups minibus is possible. We will get the boats to the launch point. ***
