It has for many years been the tradition to take older scouts and explorers from gravesham away in the October school holiday to an area of open land and hills, to learn and improve their hillwalking and map reading skills. They also have the chance to meet with young people from other groups and make new friendships.
This year hillcraft was in princetown in the dartmoor national park. An area with wild open moorland, deep river valleys and rich with history and rare wildlife.
27 scouts and explorers attended split into 6 walking groups supported by qualified and experienced leaders and a base camp leadership team. They were able to complete several different walks and although there was some rain, generally the weather was good, although very windy at times. Comments from the young people inured that it was a great trip, that they really enjoyed and can't wait to come again next year. This trip is usually advertised in the summer term, so look out for the information from scout and explorer leaders. Tracey Jarvis Gravesham Explorer Leader
