Next April will be Gravesham Scouts 58th Easter Hillcraft trip took place, our annual hillwalking trip to the Lake District. This year we will be heading to the hills from April 16th to the 21st 2025.
Last year we took Scouts, Explorers and Network Scouts from Gravesham Scouts, a number Gold Duke of Edinburgh participants from across Kent and a plethora of adult volunteers making sure everything ran smoothly from leading the teams in the hills, managing base camp and driving the minibuses around each day… over 70 people in total!
There was plenty of peak bagging, and a wide range of big and small adventures to suit all abilities! A number of our young people even got to experience nights in the hills in remote locations. Carrying all the necessary kit to enjoy such an opportunity over two days. Even the weather was a bit drier (for the most part) than the previous year, though certainly no summer holiday in the sun.
Hillcraft isn’t all big and high adventures… teams are built around the capabilities of the young people. Our newbies to Hillcraft are introduced gently to the aspect of hillwalking with smaller, more achievable walks – reaching smaller peaks, visiting caves, mines and other iconic locations in the Lake District, all whilst creating memories and developing new skills!
With all this in mind we would like to announce that bookings for the 58th Hillcraft are now open! So, to find out more about what is involved, and how to sign up head to: https://www.graveshamscouts.org.uk/activities/hillcraft
As part of the lead up to Hillcraft 2025 there is also Wintercamp (also open to Scouts and Explorers not attending Hillcraft) over the weekend of January 31st to February 2nd 2025, bookings are also now open for that event and full details can be found here: https://www.graveshamscouts.org.uk/event-info/district-winter-camp-1
