Hopehill 75th Birthday Camp

Writer: David NorrisDavid Norris

Have you got 11th-13th July in your Groups diaries for the Hopehill 75th Birthday Camp?

Hopefully it’s a big YES as we will be celebrating the 75th Birthday of our fabulous campsite, Hopehill!

We are in the process of planning a fantastic weekend of activities for all ages (yes it is for Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and Adult Volunteers!) but want to let you know some of the details so that you can put it out to all your leaders and young people.

The Friday night (11th July) will be arrivals and set up (early set up can be arranged… more details closer to the event) for all those camping throughout the weekend.

Saturday will be a timetabled set of activity zones with something for everyone and more! Saturday evening will culminate in a campfire led by our District Lead Volunteer, and followed by some additional activities for our Scouts and Explorers.

Sunday will be a mixture of reflection and excitement… kicking off with a moment of reflection in a District wide Scouts Own before we get to the nitty gritty of Challenge 75… our intergroup competition to find out who will be crowned District Champions!

So what kind of activities are on offer?! Well we can’t 100% say just yet but we are aiming to have…

  • Target sports (Archery, rifles, tomahawks etc)

  • Climbing

  • Inflatables

  • Craft

  • Scout Skills

  • Challenges…and more!

Not able to camp for the weekend? We got you!

On the Saturday, we will be offering the chance for day visitors to the event! Times for day visitors are tbc but essentially they can come along and take part in pretty much everything the campers are doing during the Saturday!

We are trying to make the event as flexible and accessible as possible to everyone across the District. So if you want to bring your whole group as campers then that’s fine. If you want to all come as day visitors on the Saturday, that’s fine too. Even if you want to have a mixture of campers and Saturday day visitors… this is also fine!

Costs for young people will be;

£20 per camper*

£10 per day visitor*

*plus food costs as defined by your group(s) (no central catering is available).

If setting up a camp kitchen for your whole group an issue then no worries… it’s time to make friends! We will be asking if groups would be willing to buddy up over the weekend to share facilities, making the camp accessible to all. We already have some that are willing to support others if needed!

Also... we will be offering indoor accomodation for Squirrels and Beavers if required.

Bookings will open soon, and will be managed centrally (bookings will NOT be accepted via Hopehill’s booking system. This is so that we can make sure pitch allocation is fairly managed). But please start advertising this within your groups in order to gather your numbers in advance.

We hope you are looking forward to the is awesome event as much as we are!
