Kent Scouts Young Leader of the Year Award
This weekend was the Kent Scouts Annual Awards ceremony which celebrates the achievements of groups, volunteers and young people across the county. It recognises those who have made a positive contribution to Scouting in Kent throughout the year.
We are delighted to announce that a member of Gravesham Scouts, Megan Jones, was shortlisted and subsequently won the "Young Leader of the Year Award" for 2024! Megan is currently a Young Leader for the Beavers & Cubs section at 5th Northfleet as well as an Explorer Scout at Kipling ESU.
Megan was given the award for her amazing work since starting with the group. She regularly contributes to all elements of pack meetings which has included giving up weekends to help run activities, district events and group fundraising events. Megan is great with the young people and uses skills learnt from her own Scouting experience to aid development of young people. and to help new adult volunteers learn new skills themselves.
Earlier on in the year, we had a Cub Scout who was struggling with a medical issue and without hesitation, Megan reassured them and dealt with the situation very well, utilizing the skills she learnt on her First Response course.
Megan has just finished her Young Leader belt which is a great achievement considering that she studies full time and also handles her paid job which takes up a majority of her other evenings in a week. She has also continued her personal development by completing her Bell Boating permit (being one of the only members under 18 to do so) which enabled us to take young people onto the water in the summer term, a great addition to our programme.
5th Northfleet and Gravesham Scouts, would like to thank Megan for everything that she does as a young leader and the amazing contribution that she has made to the Group and District.
