What is it?
Gravesham paddlesport team will be running training opportunities for all Scouts /
Explorers (and leaders) to have a go and / or develop paddling skills / experience. These sessions will enable you to try different craft - canoe, kayak or paddleboard (SUPs) – and you will be able to learn and practice paddling and rescue techniques for each craft to enable you to paddle safely. PaddleUK Personal Performance Awards are mapped with the Scout Paddle Sports Activity Badge Scheme. You will be able to work towards/gain the relevant Scout Badge if you meet the appropriate Paddlesport standard, for the Personal Performance Award:
Where is it?
Leybourne Lakes Country Park, Malling Road, Snodland, Aylesford. Postcode for SatNav: ME6 5LB (car park entrance off of Ham Hill Roundabout A228).
You will need – a packed lunch and drink; a towel and dry clothes; shoes to wear in the water (water shoes, old trainers, plimsolls) – these are mandatory. Sun cream / hat / coat / flask of hot drink may be needed.

Book Paddlesport session – accept booking policy Select: • Leybourne Lake …… • Lake session…. • select date…..and click on time (Skip login process ) • Enter attendee/paddler’s details ….. • Book You should then get an email confirmation of booking.
Final attendance details and a Participation Agreement will be sent for completion 5 days before the event.
Cost is £15 per person, payable on the day

Will it be cold?
Probably – check weather forecast and remember ‘Be Prepared’.
Will I get wet?
Possibly – the aim is to provide training to build confidence and knowledge in paddlesport in a safe and controlled environment.
What should I wear?
On the water - Wet suit if you have one or suitable clothing (NO JEANS) that can get
wet but will keep you warm ie: fleece top.
You will also need footwear (old trainers) that will get wet.
Windproof jacket /cag is always a good idea.
You will be provided with a Buoyancy aid and helmet together with
any other safety kit required.
Off the water - Warm dry clothing to change into at end of session

Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes. This is a water-based activity, and you are required to wear a buoyancy aid for the
duration of the activity. You will also need to complete Participation Agreement in advance to confirm that you can swim.
How far do I need to swim?
Although this is not a swimming activity, you do need to be able to swim.
