Ten Explorer Scouts from Gravesham got to grips with first aid last Saturday as part of their training as Young Leaders working in the Scout, Cub and Beaver sections across the District. Over 50 Young Leaders, aged between 14 and 18 are now providing leadership and support across the District and their enthusiasm and interest is very important to the continued success of Scouting in Gravesham. However, in order to work as Young Leaders the Explorers must undertake training and the First Response course which deals with the basics of first aid is obviously a very important element. The 4.5 hour course run by Andy Treadwell covered a whole range of topics, many of which were new to the Explorers, but there were also plenty of “hands on” practical exercises.
The Explorers Young Leaders who completed the course were Isabelle Crisford, Michael Brown, Otis Gluck, Casey Stonehouse, Matthew Fooks, Oscar Jones, William Poulsen, Michael Williams, Adam Perrott and Shay Lynch.
Dave Moesli, District Explorer Scout Commissioner said “These young people give up a lot of their time to help train and lead younger Scouts and the District recognises their important role and their dedication to volunteering at a very young age. I’m also pleased to see that they enjoyed their course and that even with a very serious subject they could still find moments for fun and humour”.
